FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Bristol: Somerset 153-4 (16.5 ovs) beat Gloucestershire 152-9 (20 ovs) by six wickets Match scorecard
Steve Kirby celebrates bowling Marcus Trescothick but Somerset eased past Gloucestershire
Peter Trego took leaders Somerset to a six-wicket win over FP t20 South Group bottom side Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire began well with Alex Gidman (31), Hamish Marshall (45) and Chris Dent (30) all making starts. But none of them could score quickly enough and matters worsened as the tail subsided to 152-9. Despite losing Marcus Trescothick early, Somerset came out firing with Trego (46) leading the way as they finished on 156-4 inside 17 overs. Gloucestershire's total was built around Marshall's patient 45 but, around him, wickets feel regularly as Keiron Pollard (3-36) and Alfonso Thomas (2-21) continued their excellent form in the shortest version of the game. In reply, Trego's 46 came out off just 17 balls and set the tempo for the Somerset chase as Zander de Bruyn struck 37 off 30 balls and Pollard plundered a rapid 30. The victory guarantees Somerset, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals, home advantage in the last eight.
