Damp defeat against Kent ends Glamorgan's t20 hopes
FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Cardiff: Kent 158-9 (20 overs) beat Glamorgan 95-3 (14.4 overs) by 14 runs (D/L) Match scorecard
Joe Denly scored three fours and a six in his sprightly 30
Kent beat Glamorgan by 14 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method, in a match between two sides already out of the hunt for a FP t20 quarter-final place.
The visitors set a challenging total of 158-9 with Joe Denly (30) and Darren Stevens (28) scoring quickly.
Glamorgan's response began slowly as Will Bragg (15) toiled, although Mark Cosgrove hit 54 from 44 balls.
However, with his dismissal came the rain and Glamorgan found themselves behind the D/L requirement on 95-3.
Having lost the toss, Kent were invited to bat first and proceeded to set a decent target despite no single batsman making a major score.
In the field, Kent continued to apply pressure as they bowled tight lines, restricting Glamorgan's scoring opportunities. Cosgrove played with his usual pace and power but no other batsman could score fast enough to keep up with the run rate.
Needing 109 under the D/L ruling, the home side found themselves 14 runs adrift when the rain came down.
The defeat is Glamorgan's 10th in 16 games of a disappointing campaign.
