Hampshire climbed off the foot of the County Championship table with their second win of the season, inside three days against injury-hit Kent.

After Hampshire declared on 553-7, Martin Van Jaarsveld offered some Kent resistance, remaining at the end on 82 as his side were bowled out for 191.

But it could not prevent the visitors going down an innings & 111-run defeat.

And the loss came at a further cost for Kent, captain Rob Key being forced to retire hurt with a broken finger.

Key now faces three weeks out after being struck on the glove trying to fend off a delivery from former England veteran Dominic Cork.

And last man Amjad Khan came in to bat at the end, despite nursing a hamstring problem.

Hampshire, who had started the third day on 404-5 in their first innings, moved on to 553-7 before Cork declared with a huge lead of 302.

James Vince (57) shared in a stand of 101 with Nic Pothas (78) for the sixth wicket as Kent struggled to cope without Amjad, who was only able to bowl eight overs.

And Sean Ervine hit two sixes and five fours in an unbeaten 56 off 72 balls.

But Kent showed no stomach for a fight when they began their second innings so far adrift and were then hit by the further blow of losing Key.

Without their captain, Kent showed little spirit, Joe Denly and Geraint Jones both departing with the total on 14.

Sam Northeast fell with the total on 59 and James Hockley to a diving catch by Michael Carberry at backward point.

Blake was then caught behind off James Tomlinson before Malinga next to depart, leg before to spinner Danny Briggs the ball after hitting him for six.

As the wickets tumbled around him Van Jaarsveld held firm, putting on 27 with Cook as defeat loomed.

But Sean Ervine came into the Hampshire attack, swiftly claiming Cook to a catch at the wicket and then removing Robbie Joseph's off stump.

Amjad at least delayed Hampshire's celebrations by unexpectedly coming out to join Van Jaarsveld in his determined attempt to take the match into a fourth day.

But, with the total on 191, David Balcombe bowled Amjad to leave Van Jaarsveld stranded.
