Bandara bowls Kent to needed win

FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Canterbury:
Kent 130-4 beat Glamorgan 126-6 by six wickets
Match scorecard

Bandara took three wickets in his four overs

Poor fielding and a low total saw Glamorgan slump to defeat against Kent in Canterbury.

Having won the toss, the Welsh side opted to bat but the loss of early wickets left them short of a decent target, setting just 126-6.

Mark Cosgrove (36) looked dangerous but was removed by an excellent Joe Denly catch off Malinga Bandara's bowling.

The south coast outfit then chased down the runs with a well-timed reply, helped by two dropped catches.

Glamorgan made a decent start, reaching 48 without loss. But four wickets in four overs left them stranded on 62-4.

Skipper Jamie Dalrymple and Ben Wright set about shoring up the batting but the repairs took too long and, although only two more wickets fell in the innings, the run rate plummeted.

Kent's reply began disastrously with James Hockley caught behind in the first over. However, fellow opener Joe Denly kept cool and struck a brisk 36.

Down the order, all the batsmen chipped in with Azhar Mahmood (30 not out) and Geraint Jones (22 not out) striking the winning runs with five balls remaining.

Glamorgan director of cricket Matthew Maynard:
"It was won and lost in the field.

"We were probably 15 runs shy with the bat, but ultimately the fielding cost us.

"It was a defendable total, we got them up to eight runs an over.

"But there were four dropped catches and there are no excuses for that.

"There were a couple of sitters and that set the tone for the innings."
