England Lions bowler Chris Woakes helped Warwickshire strengthen their grip on second place in the North Group with a six-wicket win over Northants.

Woakes took 3-21 as Northants were restricted to 146-5, Alex Wakely top scoring with 41.

Elton Chigumbura (3-19) took three wickets in four balls as Warwickshire stuttered to 93-4 in reply.

But 46 from Keith Barker and an unbeaten 30 from Tim Ambrose saw the visitors home with 11 balls remaining.

Barker hit six boundaries in his 28-ball knock, sharing a 77-run second-wicket partnership with Maddy.

The visitors lost Maddy, Barker and Jim Troughton, all to the Zimbabwe international Chigumbura, as they slipped from 86-1 in the 9th over to 93-4 nine balls later.

But an unbeaten stand of 54 between Ian Westwood (24 not out) and Ambrose, eased the Bears home in the penultimate over.

Earlier, Wakely hit 41 from 30 balls including three fours and one six, as Northants recovered from 41-3 to post 146-5 in their 20 overs.

Northamptonshire captain Andrew Hall told BBC Radio Northampton:
"I thought the guys fought back well. We bowled nicely and dragged it back to try to give us a chance, but we were probably 10 or 15 short of runs.

"If we can do well against Notts (on Sunday), we'll jump away from the pack.

"Hopefully with that in hand, we can get the wins to get us into position."

BBC Radio Northampton's Geoff Doyle said:
"This is was eerily like the encounter between these two teams at Edgbaston last month.

"The Steelbacks posted a score which didn't seem enough and the Bears coasted home with plenty of balls to spare.

"It means Warwickshire will probably now claim a quarter-final spot and Northants will be fighting with six other teams for the final one."
