FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, The Swalec Stadium: Glamorgan 164-8 (20 overs) beat Surrey 154-8 (20 overs) by 10 runs Match scorecard
Glamorgan opener Mark Cosgrove scored nine fours and a six in his 76 |
Glamorgan recorded their second win over Surrey in six days as they kept their FP t20 quarter-final hopes alive with a 10-run win in Cardiff. Aussie Mark Cosgrove led the way with 76 off 53 balls, aided by Jim Allenby (34) and captain Jamie Dalrymple (33), taking Glamorgan to 164-8. In reply, Surrey began poorly as Steven Davies was stumped off the first ball. Stewart Walters rallied his side with a competition best 53 not out but steady wickets saw Surrey fall short on 154-8. After losing the toss, Glamorgan were inserted by Surrey skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown. But the home side quickly set about recording a defendable total, all the top order making decent scores except for Tom Maynard, who made an unbeaten 78 at the Oval six days ago but was dismissed without scoring this time. In reply, with the exception of Davies, all the Surrey batsmen got starts but wickets tumbled at regular intervals, including Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds (22). Despite defeat, Surrey's hopes of a quarter-final berth were kept alive by Hampshire's loss at the hands of Somerset. The men from The Oval are level on points with Hampshire, but have played one more game. The two sides are joined on the 12-point mark in the South Group by Middlesex and Glamorgan.
