COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Bristol: Gloucestershire 420 and 45-0 beat Middlesex 236 and 228 by 10 wickets Glos 23 pts, Middlesex 3pts Match scorecard
Ex-Gloucestershire skipper Jon Lewis took his season's haul to 28 wickets |
Gloucestershire cruised to victory over Middlesex as they beat them by 10 wickets within three days at Bristol. Resuming their first innings on 404-8, the hosts reached 420 before being bowled out to lead by 184 runs. But, despite a half-century from Neil Dexter, Middlesex were bowled out for 228 in their second innings. Paceman Jon Lewis caused the early damage on his way to figures of 4-54 before Kadeer Ali (26) and Jonathan Batty (18) guided them home on 45-0. Gloucestershire's decision not to use a specialist spinner paid dividends as all their seamers pegged back the visitors to set them up for a comfortable finale. And Kadeer and Batty needed just 13.1 overs at the crease to complete the hosts' fifth Championship victory of the season, which moves them into a promotion position in Division Two.
