COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Northampton: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Northants 355-5 Northants 4pts, Glamorgan 1pt Match scorecard
Sales's knock of 127 included 16 fours and one six |
David Sales hit his first century of the season to give Northants the upper hand over Glamorgan on day one at Wantage Road. Sales, who missed the whole of last season with a knee injury, hit 16 fours and a six in his 184-ball 127. He added 175 for the fourth wicket with Nicky Boje (98) before both men fell in quick succession at the end of the day. Stephen Peters has earlier made 76 as Northants took advantage of winning the toss to close on 355-5. The hosts lost Ben Howgego and Alex Wakely in moving to 78-2 at lunch before Peters and Sales made hay in the afternoon session with a third-wicket stand of 94. | 606: DEBATE |
Peters' patient innings was ended when he edged Dean Cosker to wicketkeeper Mark Wallace but this was to be Glamorgan's only success in the afternoon session. Boje reached his half-century in just 53 balls while Sales, who had earlier taken 28 deliveries to get off the mark, moved to his first hundred in first-class cricket since August 2008. Boje was eventually trapped lbw by James Harris (2-46) and David Harrison (2-76) took out Sales' middle stump as Glamorgan made good use of the second new ball before Elton Chigumbura and Andrew Hall took the hosts through to the close.
