A fine all-round display from Tom Smith helped Lancashire move closer to the FP t20 last eight with a 46-run win over Worcestershire at Old Trafford.

Smith hit five fours and six sixes in a career-best 92 not out to help the hosts recover from 0-2 to 170-5.

He also put in a career-best performance with the ball, taking 3-12 as Worcestershire were bowled out for 124, despite Sanath Jayasuriya's 54.

The win sees Lancashire climb to third in the North Group.

Jack Shantry removed Stephen Moore and Steven Croft in the opening four balls of the Lancashire innings before Smith, along with Mark Chilton (34 not out) and Paul Horton (22), carried them to what proved to be a winning score.

Worcestershire were given a blistering start by Jayasuriya's 29-ball effort but were pegged back when the Sri Lankan fell to Stephen Parry (3-19).

Captain Glen Chapple (3-36) then picked up three wickets in four balls to rip the heart out of the middle order before Smith mopped up the tail.
