Will Jefferson smashed eight sixes in a lightning 83 off 33 balls as Leicestershire beat Derbyshire by 16 runs in their FP t20 North Group match. The visitors reached 212-5 in their 20 overs, Brad Hodge's 39 adding to Jefferson's crucial contribution. But Derbyshire failed to reach their target, ending on 196-8, despite Steffan Jones hitting 40 off 22 balls. Leicestershire skipper Matthew Hoggard led the visiting attack, taking 3-38 to help leapfrog above their rivals. Jefferson's total, which included a 22-ball fifty, was the highest innings from a Leicestershire batsmen in this season's competition as the Foxes also recorded their biggest total. He and fourth-wicket partner Nixon were ruthless in their approach, lashing 65 in just four overs as the visitors built what proved to be an unassailable lead.
