Jimmy Adams scored his second century of this year's Friends Provident t20 to help crush Glamorgan by 54 runs.

Adams, who hit his first Twenty20 ton against Surrey earlier in the campaign, again thrilled The Rose Bowl to boost Hampshire's quarter-final hopes.

The Hampshire opener hit 100 not out as his team set a big target of 199-5.

And, once visiting opener Mark Cosgrove had gone for 33, other than an unbeaten 42 down the order from keeper Mark Wallace, Glamorgan struggled to 145-9.

Reaching his century in the final over, Adams struck 16 fours in his 61-ball innings (slightly faster than his century against Surrey) after the home side opted to bat first.

After losing opening partner Michael Lumb cheaply, Adams then featured in a stand of 90 for the second wicket in only 8.5 overs with James Vince (39).

Man of the Match Jimmy Adams joined an elite group of players, including Adam Gilchrist and Brendan McCullum, who have hit two centuries in this format of the game in one season.

It also takes him to 417 runs in this competition - top of this season's Twenty20 run scorers for the entire country.

Huw Waters was the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers finishing with 3-30 from his four overs, while veteran Robert Croft conceded only 24 from his four.

Glamorgan, needing 10 an over to win, never looked like reaching their target once big-hitting Australian Mark Cosgrove had gone after thumping three sixes in his typically quickfire 33.

Left-arm spinner Danny Briggs sent back Gareth Rees, Croft and Chris Ashling first ball to finish with 3-27.

Glamorgan looked set for a heavier defeat on 116-9 at the start of the 17th over but a late flurry of runs from Wallace and last man Waters at least ensured they batted out their overs.

Hampshire move up to fourth in the South Group, two points clear of seventh-placed Glamorgan.
