FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire 121 (20 ovs) tied with Northants 121-7 (20 ovs) 1 pt each Match scorecard
Pattinson played just one Test for England, against South Africa in 2008
Darren Pattinson and Graeme White were run out off the final two balls as FP t20 North Group leaders Nottinghamshire were held to a tie by Northants.
Notts needed five off the final over and one off the last two balls to win but were instead dismissed for 121.
That Notts were in with a shout of victory was down to Steven Mullaney's 53 after Chaminda Vaas struck three times in 11 balls to leave them 12-3.
Pattinson had earlier taken 4-19 as Northants were restricted to 121-7.
They were the former England paceman's best bowling figures in Twenty20 cricket and helped seemingly put Notts in the driving seat, despite Alex Wakely top scoring with 43 and captain Andrew Hall finishing unbeaten on 40 for Northants.
That all changed with Vaas' early burst, which saw him remove Alex Hales, Ali Brown and Samit Patel, while Hall accounted for Notts captain David Hussey.
Matt Wood started the Notts recovery with 41, sharing 55 for the fifth wicket with Mullaney, who then carried his side to the brink of victory.
But Hall held his nerve in the final over, having Mullaney caught on the boundary and then, after conceding four to White's paddle sweep, producing two perfect yorkers from the final two balls of the match to set up the run outs as Notts tried to scramble home.
Both sides take one point from the game as competition rules dictate that in the group stages a tie will be declared if the scores finish level, regardless of the number of wickets lost.
Northants skipper Andrew Hall told BBC Radio Northampton: "To get a tie against one of the top-rated sides in the competition is a great thing for us.
"I'm really chuffed because we showed a lot of heart and a lot of fight towards the end of the match.
"We also got stuck in with the bat to get as many runs as we could."
BBC Radio Northampton's Geoff Doyle gives his verdict: "Thrilling finish and the best T20 match Northants have been involved in this season.
"We didn't think 121 was going to be enough but Chaminda Vaas did what Darren Pattinson did with the ball, assisted by Hall and Boje, and the Steelbacks' fielding did the rest.
"It's games like that that make Twenty20 so entertaining."
