Goodwin hit two sixes and 11 fours in his unbeaten 76 |
Murray Goodwin and Brendon McCullum both hit unbeaten half-centuries as holders Sussex raced to a nine-wicket thrashing of Hampshire at Hove. Set 133 to win, Sussex lost Matt Prior for a golden duck. But that was Hampshire's only success as skipper Goodwin (76) and McCullum (59) raced to their target on 136-1 with a massive 8.2 overs to spare. Only Neil McKenzie (40), Nic Pothas (32) and Jimmy Adams (31) made double figures as Hampshire laboured to 132-8. It was Sussex's sixth win in seven games as they bounced back from their midweek defeat by Gloucestershire at the first attempt. Hampshire's understrength attack had no answer to Goodwin and McCullum as they attempted to defend a below-par total, brought about by a disciplined Sussex bowling display New Zealand international McCullum hit four sixes and six fours in his 33-ball knock, but was upstaged by the evergreen Goodwin, who faced just 35 balls and hit 11 boundaries before winning the game with a six off Dominic Cork - the second of his innings.
