FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Headingley: Yorkshire 155-6 (20 ovs) beat Lancashire 138 (19.1 ovs) by 17 runs Match scorecard Anthony McGrath hits down the ground on the way to his Twenty20-best 73 not out against Lancashire at Headingley
Anthony McGrath hit a Twenty20-best 73 not out to put Yorkshire on course for a 17-run Roses victory over Lancashire at Headingley. McGrath proved the mainstay of the home side's innings, hitting four sixes and five fours in their 155-6. Spinners Adil Rashid (2-22) and Azeem Rafiq (1-25) then turned the screw before Steven Patterson (4-30) took three wickets in five balls to seal it. Paul Horton top scored for Lancashire with 30 as they were dismissed for 138. It was only Yorkshire's second win in five games in this summer's Friends Provident t20 and was enough to lift them off the bottom of the North Group at Worcestershire's expense. But after opening their campaign with two wins, Lancashire have now gone four games without a victory. That Yorkshire had more than 150 to defend was solely down to McGrath, who smashed 18 off the 19th over bowled by Glen Chapple, hitting the Lancashire captain for two sixes, a four and a two on the way to beating his previous best by one. It proved more than enough as Yorkshire bowled tightly before Patterson put the result beyond doubt in the 18th over of Lancashire's reply to finish with Twenty20-best figures. After bowling a no-ball and conceding four leg-byes, Patterson had Gareth Cross caught on the boundary and Mark Chilton held at deep mid-wicket before Chapple, who hooked his first ball for six, holed out to Rich Pyrah at long-off.
