Surrey ended their losing streak in this year's Friends Provident t20 with victory over Somerset by 21 runs. Batting first, Surrey posted a modest 160-7 although Mark Ramprakash (59) and Younus Khan (59) set a county Twenty20 record for the fifth wicket, adding 84. In reply, Somerset started badly, losing captain Marcus Trescothick (4) and Craig Kieswetter (6) cheaply. James Hildreth (54 not out) settled the innings but Somerset were unable to cope with the spiralling run rate. Somerset seamer Alfonso Thomas removed Gareth Batty, Ramprakash and Chris Schofield on the way to recording 3-27. Although going wicketless, Kieron Pollard restricted Surrey to 18 runs off his four overs. However, Zander de Bruyn was smashed for 22 off his single over. Somerset's preparation had begun poorly when their team bus broke down on Friday night, leaving them stranded in Southampton following their dramatic win against Hampshire.
