COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Lord's: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Middlesex 347 & 48-1, Northants 581-7 dec Middlesex 4pts, Northants 8pts Match scorecard
Andrew Hall struck 17 fours in his 192-ball 133 |
Andrew Hall hit a century and Stephen Peters fell one run short of a double ton as Northants took firm control over Middlesex on day three at Lord's. Resuming on 280-4, Northants lost Nicky Boje before Peters (199) and Hall (135) added 144 for the sixth wicket. David Murphy also weighed in with 50 before the visitors declared on 581-7, a first-innings lead of 234. Middlesex then lost Scott Newman to close on 48-1 and will need to bat out the final day to avoid defeat. Peters and Boje (37) added 50 in 14 overs in the morning session before Boje pulled Pedro Collins to Owais Shah at square leg. | 606: DEBATE |
Peters, 115 overnight, was never troubled as he went past his previous highest score of 183 not out - scored against Middlesex at Northampton in May - but fell short of a maiden double century when he chipped a return catch back to the diving Shaun Udal. Hall and Murphy, who scored his maiden Championship half-century, then added 107 for the seventh wicket to take Northants to their highest score against Middlesex before Hall declared when he was bowled by Collins. Middlesex, who had Udal nursing a split webbing and Gareth Berg off the field with a back problem, used no fewer than nine bowlers and were jeered by a small section of the crowd as they left the field. Their mood did not improve when Newman edged Jack Brooks to first slip but some solace was found when Shah and Sam Robson survived until the close.
