Kieron Pollard and Alfonso Thomas were the Hampshire destroyers as the home side lost their last six wickets for just four runs to lose to Somerset.

In a low-scoring FP t20 match, chasing Somerset's 104-7, Hampshire looked on the brink of victory at 93-4, needing just 11 runs in almost four overs.

But Thomas and Pollard came on, and Hampshire fell away in spectacular style to lose by seven runs.

Despite opener Jimmy Adams hitting 61, they were bowled out for 97.

Adams was the only Hampshire batsman to reach double figures, with a comparatively patient 61 from 47 balls.

But, when he was sixth out at 96, Hampshire lost their nerve against Pollard and Thomas.

Hampshire seemed to have done the hard part in setting themselves only 104 to win, Zander de Bruyn top scoring with an unbeaten 32.

After the first ball loss of Craig Kieswetter, this week elevated to England's one-day squad, they then lost six wickets for 39 to slump to 66-7.

But Thomas joined De Bruyn to compile the night's best stand, an unbeaten 37 for the eighth wicket.

Somerset managed only eight fours in their entire innings, and no sixes, against a tight Hampshire attack in which Sean Ervine took 2-10 from his four overs.

Despite losing Michael Lumb in the second over, the home side still looked well capable of overhauling their modest target before Pollard struck for the first time when he dismissed Michael Carberry to a catch at the wicket when the score was 40 in the seventh over.

Even so, Hampshire continued to make steady progress, Adams reaching his 50 off 83 balls, and then featuring in a stand of 22 in three overs with Razzaq.

But from the moment Razzaq fell to Thomas at 93, Hampshire became paralysed by self-doubt.

Much depended on the durability of Adams but, at 96, he edged Pollard to James Hildreth.

Hampshire still needed only eight from 15 balls, with four wickets in hand. But Dan Christian was run out first ball and then, just one run later, Thomas ran out the veteran Dominic Cork.

Chris Wood was bowled first ball by Thomas with Hampshire on 97-9 and then, in the last over, Nic Pothas was caught by Jos Buttler off Pollard to complete a shock victory for the 2005 winners.
