Gilchrist heads back to the hutch after being dismissed third ball for just 2 |
Holders Sussex made it two wins out of two in this summer's Twenty20 competition with victory by 28 runs over Middlesex at Lord's. The hosts had Sussex in trouble at 33-4 as Pedro Collins (3-27) struck early. But Dwayne Smith (49) and Mike Yardy (37no) added 78 for the fifth wicket before Yasir Arafat's unbeaten 25 off 16 balls helped them post 146-6. Middlesex lost Adam Gilchrist to the seventh ball of their innings and never recovered as they made only 118-6. Scott Newman, Neil Dexter, Owais Shah and Dawid Malan all made starts but failed to go on in the face of a disciplined Sussex bowling attack in which only Arafat and Smith went at more than six an over. Yardy proved particularly miserly with his slow left-arm darts, finishing with figures of 2-14 from his four overs.
