Hildreth also hit a century in Somerset's win over Yorkshire |
James Hildreth hit 131, his second successive Championship century, to put Somerset in control against Warwickshire on day two at Taunton. Hildreth, unbeaten on 35 overnight, struck 17 fours in a chanceless knock. His efforts helped move Somerset from their overnight 145-3 to 290 all out, a lead of 163. Darren Maddy made 61 and Varun Chopra 31 in Warwickshire's second innings but both fell before the close as the Bears ended the day on 111-3. Hildreth dominated the day's early action, moving to his half-century before Arul Suppiah, 61 not out overnight, edged a lifter from Andrew Miller through to wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose and departed for 64. | 606: DEBATE |
Jos Buttler (24) arrived to share a sixth-wicket stand of 65 with Hildreth, but when the youngster departed, caught behind off Darren Maddy, it sparked a mini-collapse which saw Somerset lose three wickets for 11 runs. At the other end, Hildreth moved to his century from 169 balls and added 50 for the eighth wicket with Alfonso Thomas (15 not out). Hildreth eventually top-edged Boyd Rankin to long leg, with Somerset making no further addition to their score after his departure as the impressive Miller (5-72) wrapped up the tail. Warwickshire lost captain Ian Westwood, caught at fine leg off Charl Willoughby, in the first over of their second innings before Maddy and Chopra added 95 for the second wicket. But Maddy fell lbw to Murali Kartik and, six balls later, Chopra was smartly taken by Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter off Ben Phillips.
