Batty joined Gloucestershire from Surrey at the end of last season

Jon Batty hit 61 but Gloucestershire were bowled out for 242 on day one against Derbyshire.

Batty shared a fourth-wicket stand of 72 with Alex Gidman (37), but only two other Gloucestershire batsmen managed to reach double figures.

Left-arm seamer Atif Sheikh took 3-78 on debut, but the visitors were gifted 76 extras, including 38 no-balls.

But Derbyshire lost three wickets early in their reply and needed Chris Rogers (49no) to take them to stumps on 71-3.
