Patel century helps Nottinghamshire see off Hampshire
CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire 265-8 beat Hampshire 253-7 by 12 runs (Notts 2pts) Match scorecard
Samit Patel celebrates reaching three figures at Trent Bridge
Samit Patel struck an unbeaten century to help Nottinghamshire to a 12-run Clydesdale Bank 40 win over Hampshire.
Patel hit 108 from 94 balls, including nine fours and four sixes, his main support coming from Alex Hales (46) and Ali Brown (43) in the hosts' 265-8.
Sean Ervine hit 96 from 91 balls to seemingly set Hampshire on course for their target.
But, when he fell to England one-day man Patel's left-arm spin, the visitors eventually fell away to 253-7.
The result leaves Nottinghamshire on five points from four matches and still with a chance of catching Group C leaders Warwickshire, while Hampshire are still to claim a single point in the competition.
Hampshire Team Manager Giles White said:
"They bowled well, but when we bowled we probably didn't go about our business as well as we might have done. We couldn't get control, and that is an area we've got to work on.
"Then when we batted, as a group we were looking for singles rather than trying to hit boundaries and back ourselves. It's important the players still have courage to play.
"If we can put a couple of wins together who knows, but we're away from that at the moment. We have to look deep inside and turn things around."
