LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Old Trafford: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Lancashire 292, Somerset 155-4 Lancs 2pts, Somerset 3pts Match scorecard
Trescothick's half-century included six fours and one six |
The weather had the upper hand on day two at Old Trafford as Somerset added just 141 runs to their overnight total. Rain and bad light dominated the early part of the day before Marcus Trescothick led the reply with 56. But with the former England opener looking increasingly dangerous he was caught behind off the gloves from a Kyle Hogg delivery. James Hildreth and Jos Buttler guided Somerset through to the close, reducing the home side's lead to 137. Rain prevented any play before lunch and Lancashire's bowling options were restricted as Sajid Mahmood was unable to take the field after suffering a calf strain during his half century on day one. But once play resumed the home side enjoyed immediate success as Hogg had Nick Compton caught behind with the second ball of the day. However, the teams were back in the pavilion five overs later after Trescothick took the offer of bad light. Two more hours of play were lost before Somerset emerged to offer further resistance. Hogg eventually removed Trescothick before Zander de Bruyn tried to sweep Simon Kerrigan and was given out lbw.
