A county record one-day fourth-wicket partnership between Ryan ten Doeschate and Grant Flower helped Essex romp to a 42-run win over Gloucestershire.

Flower (116) and ten Doeschate (84) put on 166, overshadowing a fine display with the ball from Gloucestershire teenager David Payne, who took 7-29.

Will Porterfield (65) and Stephen Snell (57) kept the visitors in the hunt, chasing Essex's all-out total of 267.

But Gloucestershire finally fell short on 225, with 15 balls to spare.

Flower and ten Doeschate's record partnership breaks Essex's previous fourth-wicket best of 151 set by his county coach Paul Grayson and Ronnie Irani against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road in 1999.
