CLYDESDALE BANK 40, New Road: Surrey 191-3 beat Worcestershire 235-7 by 30 runs (D/L method) Surrey 2pts Match scorecard
Usman Afzaal (left) and Steven Davies shared a third-wicket stand of 85
Steven Davies' 81 against his old county set Surrey on the way to a 30-run win over Worcestershire on the Duckworth-Lewis method in the CB 40. Set 236 to win, Surrey looked well placed on 191-3 after 31 overs thanks to Davies and Usman Afzaal (55 no). However it was at this point that the rain intervened to end the contest and hand victory to Surrey. Earlier, Phil Jacques hit 78 and James Cameron an unbeaten 48 in Worcestershire's total of 235-7. Surrey had seen captain Rory Hamilton-Brown and Mark Ramprakash fall cheaply before Davies took control. His 55-ball effort came to an end when, after taking Chris Whelan for six, four and six in successive balls he hit the next delivery to Ben Smith at deep square leg. Afzaal then combined with Matt Spriegel (31 not out) for an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 59 that had Surrey firmly in charge when the rain came.
