Sussex held their nerve to secure a 44-run Clydesdale Bank 40 victory over the Unicorns at Hove.

Chasing 256 to win, the part-timers threatened an upset as Michael O'Shea (44), Jackson Thompson (43) and Chris Murtagh (31) gave them a solid start.

Wes Durston (51) kept alive their hopes, but James Kirtley took four wickets in eight balls to see Unicorns slip from 207-4 to 211 all out.

Chris Nash (81) and Murray Goodwin (56) were earlier central to Sussex's 255-8.

Goodwin passed 10,000 career List A runs, while Glenn Querl, Tom Mees and Neil Hancock each picked up two wickets.

The Unicorns were given a blistering start by Thompson, but even when he was run out by Rana Naved-ul-Hasan's direct hit, Durston and O'Shea kept them in the hunt.

O'Shea fell to Monty Panesar (1-33), before Kirtley ripped through the Unicorns middle order.
