Alfonso Thomas burst hands Somerset win over Lancashire
CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Old Trafford: Somerset 235 beat Lancashire 193 by 42 runs Somerset 2pts Match scorecard
Thomas' first wicket was the prize scalp of Ashwell Prince
Alfonso Thomas inspired a late Lancashire collapse to give Somerset a 42-run Clydesdale Bank 40 victory.
Chasing 236 at Old Trafford, the hosts were given a solid platform by Stephen Moore (51) and Paul Horton (59).
But after Horton fell to Max Waller's leg-spin to leave his side 154-4, Thomas (4-34) ripped through the tail as Lancashire were all out for 193.
Arul Suppiah had earlier top scored with 80 in Somerset's 235, Daren Powell finishing with 4-49.
Despite Suppiah's one-day best score, Somerset looked to be in trouble at 168-6 until some late innings hitting from Peter Trego (38 from 31 balls) took them to what proved to be a winning score.
The second-wicket stand of 81 between Moore and Horton looked to have set Lancashire on their way.
Horton was the fourth man to fall and, when former captain Mark Chilton became Thomas' second victim at 173-5, it sparked a collapse which saw the hosts lose their last six wickets for 20 runs.
Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick told BBC Somerset:
"We've put in some very good performances, they've been very professional from all the lads involved really.
"Alfonso [Thomas]'s knock was obviously fantastic but I think what really changed it was [Peter] Trego again.
"Coming into the power play, he made a big difference and gave us that impetus to go on and get to 235."
