CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Old Trafford: Lancashire 275-3 beat Glamorgan 271-4 by seven wickets Lancs 2pts Match scorecard
Ashwell Prince struck nine fours in his unbeaten 102 |
An unbroken stand of 186 between Ashwell Prince and Steven Croft led Lancashire to a seven-wicket win over Glamorgan in the Clydesdale Bank 40. Chasing 272 to win, Lancashire looked to be in trouble when James Harris (2-41) helped reduce them to 89-3. But Prince, with 102 from 82 balls and Croft's 84 from 70 balls guided them home with nearly three overs to spare. Earlier Tom Maynard hit an unbeaten 103 from just 68 deliveries in Glamorgan's total of 271-4. Maynard built on the good work done by Mark Cosgrove (50) and Jim Allenby (40), who shared 86 for the first wicket. After they both fell to the left-arm spin of Stephen Parry (2-41), Maynard added 60 for the third wicket with Jamie Dalrymple (31) and 101 in just 10 overs for the fourth wicket with David Brown (27). Tom Smith (33) and Paul Horton (29) got Lancashire's reply off to a rapid start, bringing up their half-century opening stand in just seven overs, but they fell to Brown and Harris respectively, with Stephen Moore departing soon after. However this was to be Glamorgan's last success of the day as Prince and Croft defied the fading light and an asking rate of sevens runs an over to share their third century stand of the summer and take Lancashire to victory.
