Nottinghamshire got their Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign up and running with a 35-run victory over Hampshire in a rain-affected game at the Rose Bowl.

In a match reduced to 24 overs per side after a delayed start, Alex Hales (41), Hashim Amla (33) and Chris Read (30) all contributed as Notts posted 180-7.

But Hampshire's chances of winning disappeared as Steven Mullaney (3-24) inspired a collapse from 43-0 to 63-5.

Liam Dawson then made a spirited 47 but his side fell well short on 145-7.

Hampshire, who saw Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Ragana Herath finish with 0-38 from four overs on his debut, have now lost all five of their matches in both competitions so far this season.

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James' verdict:
"Nottinghamshire's total of 180 was always 20 to 30 runs too many especially against a Hampshire side lacking confidence.

"Dominic Cork's return to form after looking rusty the week before is a major boost, as was Liam Dawson's innings of 47 not out.

"Hampshire will hope to build on performances like these as they seek to turn around their poor start to the season"
