Derbyshire's Tom Lungley struck twice in the ninth over of the morning

Four wickets for Mark Footitt and three each for Tom Lungley and Robin Peterson saw visitors Derbyshire bowl out Northants for 220 at Wantage Road.

Lungley struck twice in the ninth over, trapping Vishal Tripathi leg before and bowling Alex Wakely with a slower ball to make the early breakthrough.

Northants skipper Nicky Boje top scored for his county with 54 before being caught off Footitt.

Chris Rogers and Wayne Madsen were unbeaten as Derbyshire closed on 57-0.

Northants won the toss and chose to bat but were soon struggling as Lungley made his double strike.

Stephen Peters made 32 off 58 balls before smashing Footitt to Rogers, who took a good low catch at mid-off.

Footitt then took his second wicket in style, ripping out Rob White's off stump.

Resuming on 98-4 after lunch, Andrew Hall lasted another seven overs before being caught behind off Footitt after a bright 33 off 41 balls.

Northants lost David Sales, who also made 33, in the next over when his attempted drive off spinner Peterson went straight to Madsen at extra cover.

Lungley claimed his third wicket when Paul Harrison edged him limply to Goddard, but Boje reached his half century in 97 balls in the fourth over after tea, before an attempt to drive Footitt in the next only found Madsen at point.

Peterson ended the Northants innings by bowling David Lucas and having Jack Brooks caught by John Sadler at short leg.

Derbyshire made a strong start to their reply, closing 163 runs behind with all 10 first-innings wickets in hand.
