James Tredwell's unbeaten 65 helped put Kent in control

A century partnership between James Tredwell and James Hockley ensured Kent will set Yorkshire a testing fourth innings target at Canterbury.

After the Tykes had been dismissed for 283 the two came together with the home team wobbling on 207-6, only 251 ahead.

Hockley was caught behind off Adil Rashid for 82 after they had added 113 before Kent closed 361 ahead on 327-7.

Martin van Jaarsveld had earlier hit 78 before falling lbw to Rashid, but Tredwell was still there on 65.

Having secured a slender first-innings advantage of 34, Kent lost both their international openers before lunch as Yorkshire struck twice with the new ball.

Joe Denly's airy drive against Tim Bresnan was well held low down by Jonathan Bairstow behind the stumps and Rob Key went leg before playing across the line at Oliver Hannon- Dalby.

Geraint Jones and Martin van Jaarsveld added 59 in 12 overs before Jones fell eight balls after lunch, given leg before attempting a reverse sweep at left-arm spinner David Wainwright.

Both Sam Northeast and Darren Stevens fell in the space of four overs and, when Van Jaarsveld fell leg before to Rashid, Yorkshire began to scent victory.

But Hockley, who was released by Kent in 2002 only to be re-signed last summer, compiled a career-best 82 in partnership with Tredwell, whose unbeaten 65 came off 107 balls.

The Tykes finally broke through three overs from the close when Hockley, aiming to glance down the leg side against Rashid, was caught by wicketkeeper Bairstow.
