Luke Evans and Jack Brooks both took three wickets as Northants completed victory over Gloucestershire by 94 runs inside three days at Bristol.

Resuming on 85-2, needing 259 more to win, the hosts never threatened their target and were all out for 249.

Evans, on loan from Durham, finished with 3-53 and Brooks 3-55.

Several home batsmen made starts but the last wicket stand of 59 between Steve Snell (52) and Steve Kirby (22no) was the highest of the innings.

Gloucestershire's hopes of mounting a bid for an unlikely victory were hit by them losing two wickets in the opening nine overs of the day.

Kadeer Ali had not added to his overnight 29 when he was bowled by David Lucas, before Hamish Marshall edged Brooks to Andrew Hall at first slip for 27.

Evans struck with his fourth ball of the day to have home captain Alex Gidman also held by Hall at slip and later had Chris Taylor caught by Stephen Peters at extra cover the ball after being hooked for six.

Gemaal Hussain became his third victim to a leg side catch by wicketkeeper Paul Harrison and when Jon Lewis edged Brooks through to Harrison the hosts were 190-9.

Snell benefited from being dropped at gully by Mal Loye to complete a 58-ball half-century before Brooks trapped him leg before to seal a comprehensive win.
