LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Trent Bridge: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Nottinghamshire 456, Kent 200 & 51-2 (Notts 8 pts, Kent 4 pts) Match scorecard
Andre Adams (left) celebrates with his Nottinghamshire team-mates after dismissing Kent's Geraint Jones
Andre Adams took five wickets during the day as Kent were made to follow on against Nottinghamshire. Paul Franks was last out for 73 as Notts added 60 in the opening hour to be bowled out for 456. Ryan Sidebottom (3-31) then removed openers Joe Denly and Rob Key before Adams got to work, ending with a first innings 4-63 as Kent were 200 all out. The visitors were immediately asked to bat again, and Adams struck once more as Kent closed on 51-2, 205 behind. Notts had resumed on 396-8 but Kent's hopes of wrapping up their innings early were dashed by indisciplined bowling as Franks peppered the cover boundary in hitting 14 boundaries. Matthew Coles did eventually take the two wickets Kent needed, having Luke Fletcher caught at second slip before removing Franks' middle stump. But the visitors' agony was only prolonged as Sidebottom delivered a devastating new-ball burst, bowling Denly through the gate before trapping Kent captain Key lbw. Adams then removed Geraint Jones' middle stump as Kent went into lunch on 33-3, before having Martin van Jaarsveld caught down the leg side and Darren Stevens and James Tredwell both caught at slip after the resumption. Azhar Mahmood did hold the home side up with 52 but the end came when Neil Edwards caught Amjad Khan off Franks to become the first Notts fielder to take five catches in an innings since Derek Randall in 1987. And Kent ended the day in even deeper trouble following-on as Fletcher enticed Key to drag on to his own stumps before Adams bowled Tredwell, deputising as opener for Denly.
