PRO40 DIVISION TWO, Derby: Glamorgan 215-5 beat Derbyshire 214-9 by five wickets (Derbys 2pts, Glamorgan 0pts)
Maynard hit seven fours in his unbeaten 69 |
Tom Maynard hit an unbeaten 69 to guide Glamorgan to a five-wicket win over Derbyshire on the final day of the Pro40 season at Derby. Maynard's 61-ball effort took the visitors to their target on 215-5 with seven balls to spare. Earlier, Garry Park made 49 in Derbyshire's total of 214-9, while David Harrison claimed figures of 3-55. The win sees Glamorgan finish sixth in the last Division Two table, while Derbyshire finish seventh. Wicketkeeper James Pipe, Derbyshire captain for the day in his final game before retiring to be the club's physio, won the toss and elected to bat. The home side lost Wayne Madsen, bowled by Harrison from the first ball of the innings, and were in danger of falling short of a competitive total after Chesney Hughes (27), Dan Redfern (27) and Paul Borrington (25) all failed to build on good starts. But, after Park was bowled by Jim Allenby (2-23), Jonathan Clare (22 not out from 16 balls) and Graham Wagg (21 from 16 balls) provided the innings with a late boost. Wagg then removed Glamorgan skipper Jamie Dalrymple for just three before Allenby (60) and Will Bragg (27) shared a second-wicket stand of 84. When they fell, to Garry Park and Jake Needham respectively, Glamorgan slipped to 101-3. But Maynard, supported by Ben Wright (26) and then by Mark Wallace (16no) carried the visitors home.
