PRO40 DIVISION TWO, Uxbridge: Middlesex 242-6 beat Derbyshire 192 by 50 runs (Middlesex 2pts)
Nick Compton hit his third one-day century of the season for Middlesex |
Middlesex maintained their Pro40 title hopes as they went top of Division Two by beating Derbyshire at Uxbridge. Nick Compton starred with 107, backed by Dawid Malan (32) and Neil Dexter (31) as the home side piled up 242-6. But, once Derbyshire lost skipper Chris Rogers for 28, they slumped to 97-5, from when it became an uphill struggle. Derbyshire were eventually bowled out for 192, Tyron Henderson finishing the match off with wickets in successive balls to seal a 50-run win. The defeat ends Derbyshire's slim hopes of the last Pro40 Division Two crown. But, while it leaves Middlesex on top for now, previous leaders Kent's home defeat by Warwickshire has also thrown the door open for either Warwickshire or Lancashire. Both have two games left, unlike Middlesex, who have just one game left, at home to Northants at Uxbridge next Saturday (1245 BST), and also need Lancashire and Warwickshire to both lose their penultimate match this week. But, if Lancashire beat Glamorgan at Cardiff and Warwickshire beat Surrey at The Oval, then the Division Two title will be decided at Old Trafford on the final day of the season (27 September, 1245 BST), when they meet head on.
