COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Lord's: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Middlesex 307-6 (Middlesex 3pts, Glos 2pts) 27-30 August 2009
 Australian-born Robson hit 11 boundaries in a patient innings of 83 |
Sam Robson and debutant Adam London scored fifties for Middlesex on the opening day of their match against Gloucestershire at Lord's. Middlesex, missing England batsmen Owais Shah and Eoin Morgan, reached 307-6 at the close after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Australian-born Robson (83) top-scored for the hosts, putting on 96 for the second wicket with London (68). Steve Kirby, Hamish Marshall and Ian Saxelby each took two wickets. The top four Middlesex batsmen all made starts but were unable to convert them into three-figure scores. Nick Compton (28) was the first man to go, caught at first slip by Chris Taylor off the bowling of Marshall. Robson and London, both 20, took the home side to 142-1 before Robson was caught at slip attempting a cut stroke off fast bowler Kirby. London and Dawid Malan (38) added another 84 for the third wicket, but both fell with the total on 226. Neil Dexter (46no) and captain Shaun Udal (23no) will look to take Middlesex towards maximum batting points when play resumes on the second morning.
