Allenby only made his previous highest Twenty20 score of 71no on Sunday

James Allenby hit his maiden Twenty20 century as Leicestershire eased to a 70-run victory over East Midlands rivals Nottinghamshire at Grace Road.

Allenby hit eight sixes and seven fours in his 58-ball 110 as the Foxes posted 205-2, their second highest total in the competition.

Harry Gurney (3-21) then took three early wickets to reduce Notts to 35-3.

And Allenby followed up his batting heroics with three victims of his own as the visitors limped to 135 all out.

Wayne White wrapped up the innings, taking three of the last four wickets to fall to finish with figures of 3-27.

Allenby enjoys 'special' innings

It was only the second time this season that a team have gone past 200 in this summer's competition, matching Essex's 205-4 against Kent on Monday night.

It was also only Leicestershire's second victory, helping them to leapfrog Nottinghamshire at the bottom of the North Division to join Derbyshire and Durham on four points.

The Nottinghamshire bowlers were made to toil as Allenby shared partnerships of 79 with Matthew Boyce (34) and 105 with James Taylor (41no).

And only four Notts batsmen made double figures, Bilal Shafayat top-scoring with just 29.

James Allenby told BBC Radio Leicester:

"Matthew Boyce played brilliantly, like he does. He is a very good player and that helped me and the team get off to a good start, and things went for us all day.

"A total like that doesn't happen very often.

"It was good to then get a couple of wickets with the ball, but Harry Gurney at the front of the innings bowled magnificently. He is getting better and better."

Notts Director of Cricket, Mick Newell, told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"That was an old fashioned hammering. Leicestershire were on top of their game, and Allenby played really well, so you have to give them credit for their performance.

"Our batting is a concern, but we've tried just about everything in any order."
