FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY, GROUP B, Taunton Somerset 291-3 beat Kent 181 by 110 runs(Somerset 2pts, Kent 0pts)
Trego shared an unbroken stand of 103 with Zander de Bruyn |
Somerset eased to a 110-run win over Kent in a rain-reduced Friends Provident Trophy game at Taunton. After a delayed start, Somerset smashed 291-3 from 38 overs, Peter Trego's unbeaten 73 from just 36 balls setting up their second straight FP Trophy win. In reply, Kent were shot out for 181 in the 34th over, only Joe Denly (43) and Geraint Jones (43 not out) providing any real resistance. Omari Banks and Alfonso Thomas both picked up three wickets for Somerset. Having being asked to bat, the home side lost Craig Kieswetter to the third ball of the innings, the wicketkeeper being yorked by debutant Warren Lee. Marcus Trescothick (70) and James Hildreth (67) then combined to add 105 for the second wicket. Both men were caught by Lee off the bowling of Paul Ferley, before Trego and Zander de Bruyn (71 not out) took up the assault. Kent's reply started poorly, captain Rob Key being caught cheaply by Trescothick off the bowling of Charl Willoughby. Denly added 47 for the second wicket with Martin van Jaarsveld (24), but van Jaarsveld's departure with the score on 54-2 was the signal for Banks (3-40) and Thomas (3-38) to run through the Kent middle order.
