Cork haul puts Worcs on back foot

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, The Rose Bowl:
Hampshire v Worcestershire

15-18 April (Play starts 1100 BST)
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Worcestershire 132 Hampshire 76-4 (Hants 3 pts, Worcs 1pt)

Veteran all-rounder Dominic Cork rolled back the years with three wickets in four balls as Hampshire took control against Worcestershire.

Cork removed Gareth Batty, Kabir Ali and Chris Whelan on the way to figures of 4-10 on his Hampshire debut, as the visitors were dismissed for just 132.

They hit back as Ali and Matt Mason struck to reduce Hampshire to 10-3.

James Adams (33no) and Sean Ervine (28) then added 63 before Whelan removed the ex-Zimbabwe star just before the close.

Worcestershire's Gareth Batty told BBC Hereford and Worcester:

"It's gone around a little bit at times, but other times it has been quite good to bat on.

"We showed that with a couple of decent partnerships and they got a little one there at the end, but we managed to break it.

"So it's going to be quite a hard-fought game."
