COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO Leicestershire 31-1 v Derbyshire 194 all out
Garnett Kruger claimed his second five-wicket haul of the season to give Leicestershire the initiative in the Division Two dead rubber at Grace Road. The seamer took 5-51 as Derbyshire were dismissed for 194 after opting to bat. Daniel Redfern top-scored for Derbys with 47, but it needed late-order contributions from Ross Whiteley and Jake Needham to boost the total. When bad light brought an early end to the day's play with 20 overs still left the hosts were 31-1 in reply. Matt Boyce was the man to fall in the eighth over, the opener caught at slip off Wayne White, but as the light closed in Greg Smith and Boeta Dippenaar saw them through without further loss. To add to Derbyshire's problems 22-year-old leg-spinner Mark Lawson, on trial with them following his release by Yorkshire, suffered a broken right index finger and looks set to miss the rest of the game. Lawson suffered the injury as he fended off a lifting delivery from Kruger and was caught by Boyce at short-leg.
