Gareth Rees hit a career-best 140 on the first day of Glamorgan's final home Championship match of the season as his side made 256-4 against Leicestershire.

Michael Powell added an unbeaten 80 as the hosts dominated the day's play.

Following a delayed start, Glamorgan captain David Hemp won the toss but soon edged a good ball by Dillon du Preez behind to leave his side 3-1.

But Rees was in positive mood and did the bulk of Glamorgan's scoring, hitting 20 fours and one six.

Garnett Kruger, operating as the fourth seamer, has been linked with a move to Glamorgan, but bowled 11 wicketless overs costing 50.
