COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Division Two, Derby (day one, stumps): Derbyshire 188 v Gloucestershire 98-6
Derbyshire's bowlers hit back after Gloucestershire had bowled them out for just 188 on day one of the Championship clash at Derby on Wednesday. David Brown took a career-best 5-38 to apparently justify skipper Jon Lewis's decision to field first, only for Graham Wagg to take 4-5 in 19 balls. That inspired burst left the visitors on 98-6 on a day dominated by the ball. An ECB pitch liaison officer said the pitch was good, a view supported by Steve Stubbings' 62 not out. The Derbyshire batsman scored only his second half-century of the season in his first game for two months and shared stands of 49 with Wagg and 41 for the last wicket with
Charl Langeveldt.
