Three of the four NatWest Pro40 matches scheduled for Sunday were abandoned before they were due to start. Rain wrecked the Warwickshire v Essex contest at Edgbaston, the Grace Road match between Leicester and Northants, and Lancashire's match at Durham. The point Essex took from the no-result does at least take the Eagles closer to gaining promotion back to Division One. Lancashire have had wretched luck with the weather in this competition, with four no-results in six matches. | 606: DEBATE |
The Red Rose county are prime candidates for relegation, and by taking just one point Durham saw their chances of winning the title stolen from them by the weather. Coach Geoff Cook is now firmly targeting a final push in the four-day competition. He said: "We still have three games left in the championship, starting at Taunton on Tuesday, when we will have Steve Harmison back. "He brings a different dimension to the team and it means we can even afford to leave out Graham Onions. If we win we will be top of the table."
