Pro40, D1, Rose Bowl: Hampshire 298-7 (40 overs) beat Durham 118-7 (21 overs) by DL method Points: Hampshire 2, Durham 0
Jimmy Adams smashed a superb 90 as Hampshire beat Durham to go top of the NatWest Pro40 First Division. Adams's score came off only 87 balls and included nine fours and one six as Hampshire reached 298-7. Durham were set a revised target of 212 off 25 overs, but lost by 62 runs using the Duckworth/Lewis method. Wickets fell regularly and only Liam Plunkett (23 not out) showed any resistance before the rain started falling again and play was abandoned. The umpires called off the match with Durham on 118-7 after 21 overs. Adams was ably partnered by Michael Carberry and the pair put on a superb partnership of 124 in 18 overs before Carberry was caught for 67. Chris Benham also smashed a quickfire 69 from only 45 balls to help Hampshire towards their tough target. In response, Durham were 42-2 before an hour of play was lost to the rain. The revised target was set but bowlers James Tomlinson 2-24 and Liam Dawson 3-19 proved too good for the Durham batsman, and even though the heavens opened again, they were always well short of their target.
