County Championship, D1, Scarborough, day two (close): Yorkshire 409-7 v Kent 227
Jacques Rudolph struck his fourth century of the season as Yorkshire built a lead of 182 at 409-7 after two days against Kent at Scarborough. Rudolph reached 100 from 146 balls, and was dropped in the same over as James Tredwell failed to hold a return catch. He was finally out for 146 from 221 balls with 21 fours and a six when he dragged a delivery onto his stumps. Another left-hander, Adam Lyth, hit 11 fours in 68 and Anthony McGrath made a calm 52 to earn maximum batting points. The cloudy conditions that assisted the seamers on the opening day gave way to sunshine on day two, and the Kent attack offered little threat. Rudolph became the first Yorkshire batsman to complete 1,000 Championship runs for the season and the century stand was recorded in 33 overs. The South African drove off-spinner James Tredwell for six but should have been caught by the slow bowler, who spilled a straightforward chance. Lyth's hopes of a century ended when a flamboyant drive at Martin Saggers merely resulted in an edge through to the keeper, but Darren Gough saw his side passed the important 400 mark in partnership with Adil Rashid.
