Derbyshire re-ignited their promotion ambitions with a seven-wicket win over Middlesex on the last day.

Seamer Charl Langeveldt (5-40) sparked a dramatic collapse as the visitors lost their last seven wickets for 48 to be shot out for a paltry 166.

Derbyshire then reached their target of 126 with 22.4 overs remaining.

Middlesex had started the day 12 in front with eight wickets in hand and should have done a lot better in conditions that were good for batting.

But only the inexperienced pair of Dawid Malan and Dan Housego offered any prolonged resistance as the wickets tumbled to a rash of poor shots.

Eoin Morgan set the tone in the fifth over of the morning when he launched a big drive at Langeveldt and gave wicketkeeper Tom New the first of four catches.

Malan was lucky to escape when he also edged a drive but Rikki Clarke spilled the chance diving in front of Chris Rogers - who has just replaced him as captain - at first slip.

That threatened to prove costly as the fourth-wicket pair began to frustrate Derbyshire but Rogers's decision to throw the ball to Wavell Hinds was an inspired one.

The West Indian's gentle medium pace changed the course of the match as he took three wickets for only five runs in his first five overs.

Malan was caught behind driving for 47 off 81 balls and Ben Scott went the same way for a duck when he followed a wide one in the Jamaican's next over.

When Gareth Berg edged a back-foot force, Middlesex had slumped to 136-6, and Housego's gritty innings ended three overs later when Langeveldt returned to knock back his off-stump.

The 19-year-old had faced 73 balls for his 36 and showed the sort of application most of his team-mates lacked.

Murali Kartik lashed Langeveldt high to cover where Graham Wagg held a superb leaping catch on the stroke of lunch and Middlesex subsided quickly after the interval as Langeveldt cleaned up the tail.

Derbyshire - who collected 20 points to Middlesex's six - had few problems with their chase, Dan Birch sealing victory with a six off Kartik to finish unbeaten on 66.
