Porterfield denied landmark ton

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Division Two, Cardiff, day three (close): Gloucestershire 223-2 v Glamorgan

Irish left-hander Will Porterfield was denied a maiden Championship century as Gloucestershire compiled 223-2 when play finally began on day three.

After two complete days were lost to rain at the Swalec Stadium, the third day did not begin until 1310 BST, meaning 207 overs had been lost.

Despite the amount of rain, the pitch looked good and Glos chose to bat.

Glamorgan used six bowlers in the first 21 overs, with Porterfield striking 11 fours in his Championship highest.

Porterfield and Kadeer Ali took Glos safely to 101-0 from 42 overs at tea, and in the second over after the interval Porterfield reached fifty from 139 balls.

Evergreen Robert Croft made the breakthrough in the 50th over when Kadeer was caught down the leg-side and Porterfield was trapped seven short of a deserved ton.
