Essex spinner Danish Kaneria claimed a six-wicket haul as Warwickshire were all out for 154 as their match finally got underway on day three at Edgbaston.

After the first two days were lost to rain, the Bears chose to bat, but only three men made more than 10, skipper Darren Maddy with five fours in his 47.

He was Kaneria's third victim, the wily leg-spinner ripping through the middle order with 6-48 from 18 overs.

Essex lost Varun Chopra in the final stages but closed 116 behind on 38-2.
