All-rounder Lance Klusener blasted a quickfire 83 as Northants collected five batting points and took control of their match against Warwickshire.

Resuming on 292-5, Northants eventually declared on 407-8, with Nicky Boje (31) and Mark Nelson (42) adding some valuable lower-order runs.

Ian Salisbury finished with 5-110, but Warwicks lost Navdeep Poonia for only four as they began their reply.

Klusener got rid of Ian Westwood (30) and the hosts finished on 120-3.

Earlier, South African Klusener was closing in on his second century of the summer when he drove loosely at a Darren Maddy ball and was caught at point by Jim Troughton.

When Warwicks began their reply Westwood and Maddy put on 70 for the second wicket before Boje claimed Maddy's scalp for 26 and Klusener ended Westwood's innings.

Jonathan Trott and Troughton were left to rebuild and they added 36 together before the close.
