Division One title contenders Durham took the last two Kent wickets inside 30 minutes of the morning session on day three to wrap up a 43-run win.

But Kent captain Rob Key raged at the state of the pitch after 38 wickets fell on Wednesday and Thursday.

He labelled an ECB pitch panel "a bit of a muppet show" and said it was "an absolute disgrace" that Durham did not have any points deducted.

Kent were out for 133 in the first session on Friday as Durham triumphed.

Key added: "The integrity of the rest of the championship is at stake.

"I'm not saying Durham deliberately prepared a bad pitch, but if there's no penalty they and other teams with strong seam attacks will always want these sort of pitches.

"The game is going to be a shambles and we won't produce Test cricketers.

"The pitch panel asked all the usual questions but apparently they think there was nothing wrong with the pitch. It's not sour grapes because I would have said the same if we'd won.

"It's ridiculous and I can't say how bad we feel about it. Even Shivnarine Chanderpaul couldn't score runs on that pitch. If the ECB are not going to do anything about pitches like that why waste money sending inspectors round the country?"

Durham skipper Dale Benkenstein added: "Both times we have had a pitch panel in my four years here Kent have been involved. They are used to playing on good pitches in the south."

Resuming on 116-8 and needing a further 61 runs to pull off an unlikely victory, Kent added 17 more runs before Mark Davies struck in crucial fashion.

He had South African Martin van Jaarsveld caught by Benkenstein for 53 and Kent's hopes were effectively over.

Callum Thorp then trapped Martin Saggers lbw for 0 in the next over.

Durham go top of the County Championship table, but that may only be on a temporary basis with Nottinghamshire still in action against Somerset.
