A fine century from Marcus North helped Gloucestershire to a solid 256-5 on the first day of their Division Two match against Leicestershire at Cheltenham. The Australian put on a 167-run third-wicket stand with Hamish Marshall from 46 overs put the home side on top after day one. A damp outfield ensured there was no play until after lunch. But late wickets from James Allenby (2-39) and Dillon du Preez (3-40) checked Gloucestershire's progress. Gloucestershire, who have yet to win a County Championship match all season, were boosted by captain Jon Lewis, fully who has recovered from a side strain injury. North had been given a lifeline on 52 he top-edged a pull of Du Preez, but Joshua Cobb failed to hold a difficult running chance at mid-off.
